The Galaxy A55, Samsung's latest premium mid-range phone, was officially announced on March 11. It went on sale in some markets the same day and will be arriving on retail shelves in many more markets later over the next few weeks.

The Galaxy A55 is the most expensive model in the lineup, and there are good reasons for that. It brings several notable, near flagship-grade upgrades, including a more premium design that includes a metal frame and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, a powerful new Exynos chip with a GPU based on AMD's RDNA graphics architecture, and up to 12GB of RAM.

All of the major specs and features of the Galaxy A55 are no longer a mystery, but there are also a few less talked-about features that may have missed your radar. For instance, did you know the Galaxy A55 features eSIM support? The Galaxy A54 was the first phone in the A5x lineup to feature an embedded SIM in addition to physical SIM slots, and the A55 has one as well.

Some markets may not have eSIM support

The Galaxy A55 also has a microSD slot with support for up to 1TB cards. Since the phone has a hybrid SIM tray, you can't use the microSD slot and two physical SIM cards at the same time. But that's where the eSIM can come in handy, at least if your carrier of choice offers eSIMs.

You will also have to check if the Galaxy A55 has an eSIM in your country. The Galaxy A54 didn't have it in all markets, and it's possible the A55 won't, either. Samsung won't provide a official list of markets where there is no eSIM support, but once the Galaxy A55 goes on sale in your country, you will be able to find out if it has eSIM support by visiting the official Samsung website and checking the phone's specs.
