Samsung gamifies Basic-Fit gyms with Galaxy Space Squat machines

Samsung and fitness club Basic-Fit have partnered to gamify the gym experience across Benelux. With this goal in mind, Samsung has installed a new interactive squat training game in which participants compete for a chance to win a Galaxy Watch Ultra.

The gamified workout is called Galaxy Space Squat. It consists of a squat machine with three large screens that power a spaceship-themed video game.

Each squat makes the spaceship move across the screen to avoid obstacles, and the object of the game is to go the furthest and obtain the highest score. Check out Samsung's video below for an overview.

Fitness enthusiasts can compete on-site in Galaxy Space Squat. This is sort of a two-player versus game mode. Each player faces a screen, and the two players are divided by a 3rd panel showing the Galaxy Space Squad leaderboards.

In addition to allowing fitness enthusiasts to play Galaxy Space Squat on-site, players compete for the highest score across the entire Galaxy Space Squat network.

Samsung's interactive workout game is installed at 24 different Basic-Fit gyms in Belgium and the Netherlands. The leaderboard aggregates high scores from all the Basic-Fit gyms where Galaxy Space Squat is being played.

The ultimate prize is a Galaxy Watch Ultra smartwatch. The Galaxy Space Squat player with the highest score will win Samsung's latest wearable.

As fun as it looks, Galaxy Space Squat isn't a permanent addition to Basic-Fit's workout equipment range. Samsung hasn't said how long these interactive squat machines will be active but mentioned that fitness enthusiasts can enjoy Galaxy Space Squat for “the coming months.”

The Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7 support dozens of exercise types, including squats, and both watches feature the most advanced BioActive sensors to date, which Samsung says are more accurate than all the previous versions.
