When it comes to smart TV platforms, Google TV and Tizen OS lead the space. One of the best features both platforms offer is that they allow you to see many live channels for free natively. Samsung calls this offering Samsung TV Plus. Google calls it just Google TV. So, when someone says “Google TV,” it becomes confusing to understand if they are referring to the smart TV platform or the free live channels it offers. Well, Google is finally fixing that by changing its name to Google TV Freeplay.

The story continues after the video…

According to a new report from Android Authority, Google TV’s offering of free live channels is now called Google TV Freeplay. So, now when you go to the Live tab and navigate to Free Built-In Channels, you will be able to see Google TV Freeplay instead of just Google TV. The publication reports that the Google TV Freeplay branding is now live on Chromecast and Android TV models, including those from Hisense and TCL, in the United States.

Google TV FreePlay

It is worth pointing out that Samsung TV Plus is available in more number of countries than Google TV Freeplay, including the world’s most populated country, India. So, if you are planning to buy a new TV that will let you watch live channels for free, check which platform will offer you that in your region.
