Samsung Health for Samsung smart TVs has a major problem

Samsung Health is one of the most popular and widespread mobile apps among Galaxy device users. It's ubiquitous in the mobile space, and you'll probably want to use it on your Galaxy phone even if you don't have a smartwatch, Galaxy Ring, or any other health and fitness tracking device. It can count steps through your phone and provide some useful information.

Having that as a baseline, and considering Samsung's valiant efforts to solidify its device ecosystem, you might expect the Samsung Health app to be just as widespread across the company's smart TV lineup. After all, the company has promoted Samsung Health for its TVs numerous times before. Unfortunately, that's not the case, and the main issue isn't the hardware.

Samsung Health might not be available in your market

If you buy a Samsung smart TV, you might view the Health platform as the cherry on top. You're ready to check out all the content the Health TV app has in store, from Routines and Challenges to Personalized Profiles and a Smart Trainer you can use together with a USB camera.

Here's the kicker: The Samsung Health smart TV app is available in limited countries. We can't find an official list, but most of us at SamMobile who own Samsung smart TVs don't have the Health TV app and can't find it in the app store.

Simply put, while Samsung Health is everywhere on mobile, the smart TV app can barely be found. If you are in the USA or Canada, you're in luck. However, details about market availability elsewhere are murky at best, so if you're outside of USA or Canada, we recommend contacting a local Samsung representative and asking if the Health TV app is available in your region before you buy a TV.

That is if you care that much about the Health TV app and if it's a big reason you'd pick a Samsung TV in the first place. Otherwise, if the Health TV app is secondary, you can forget about it or use Samsung Health on your other devices. Samsung's Neo QLED and OLED TVs are fantastic and usually well integrated with the SmartThings platform, and it would be a shame to pass on all their benefits because of Samsung Health missing in your region.

Just keep in mind that if you buy a Samsung smart TV, there's no guarantee that you will also have access to the Samsung Health app, and for the most part, it all depends on the market you're in.

The story continues after the video

As far as compatibility by model is concerned, Samsung Health works with most Samsung TVs released in 2020 and later, including Crystal UHD (TU8000 and above), OLED, QLED, Neo QLED, and lifestyle models such as The Sero, The Serif, and The Frame.

Aside from TVs, Samsung Health is also compatible with the Odyssey Ark smart monitor, which runs Tizen OS.

If you already own a compatible smart TV, you can verify if you have access to Samsung Health in your market via the TV's navigation bar. If the app is not listed on the navigation bar, use the remote to open “Apps” and search for “Samsung Health” in the app store. Assuming you find the Health app in the store, you can choose to download and install it on your TV. But if Samsung Health doesn't show up in search results, the TV app must not be available in your region.
