Waiting for One UI 3.5? You might never get it

If the latest rumor is to be believed, there may be no version 3.5 of Samsung's One UI later this year. We've been expecting Samsung's new flagships that will launch in the second half of the year to come with One UI 3.5, in line with how the flagships that launched a year back debuted with One UI 2.5 and the ones in 2019 launched running One UI 1.5. Well, things could get a little complex this year, with Samsung reportedly working on One UI 3.1.1 before it eventually debuts One UI 4.0 with the Android 12 update.

3.1.1 could be the next One UI release

The information comes from leakster Ice universe, though there's no reason given for why Samsung is suddenly changing the way it assigns version numbers to One UI releases. If we had to guess, it could have something to do with the fact that Samsung is launching considerably fewer flagship phones this year than it has in the last couple of years. There's no new Note series incoming in 2021, and the Galaxy S21 FE has reportedly been delayed, leaving only Samsung's two new foldable phones.

It's possible those foldables will not have enough new features, at least not those that will arrive on non-folding devices, to warrant a big enough One UI version jump. Or, well, Samsung is simply changing how it does things and will do away with x.5 One UI releases altogether. In any case, if One UI 3.1.1 is what's next, we can expect Samsung to bring it to many of its smartphones and tablets before it starts rolling out Android 12 and One UI 4.0. However, nothing is confirmed at this point, so take everything with a pinch of salt.

Why this small One UI 7.0 change seems like a pretty big deal

As you may have probably heard several times before, the upcoming One UI 7.0 update will change many things about the look and feel of Samsung's proprietary Android skin. But oddly enough, in my eyes, one of the most significant changes One UI 7.0 is supposed to bring is rather inconspicuous. If some of the […]

New One UI 7.0 firmware spotted as development continues

The One UI 7.0 beta update might be coming later than everyone had hoped, but this could mean we'll enjoy a more polished test firmware than usual. Either way, Samsung isn't sitting around not doing anything, and new evidence shows that the company is hard at work developing the firmware. A new One UI 7.0 […]

Every new Galaxy phone user should know about this routine

Samsung was among the first OEMs to implement the Always On Display (AOD) feature on its smartphones, and to this day, AOD remains a staple of the Galaxy phone experience. With the Galaxy S24 series, AOD became even more prominent because it can now work full-screen and show a faint wallpaper when you're not using […]

One UI 7.0 will feel completely different even in early beta

Samsung might be taking its time launching the One UI 7.0 beta program, but it could be for the better. By all accounts, One UI 7 isn't just another incremental upgrade but almost like a reimagining of Samsung's proprietary skin for Android. The company better get it right, even if it comes at a time […]

How cool would a Galaxy AI dual-phone Interpreter mode be?

Interpreter is one of the best Galaxy AI features for Samsung phone users who often travel to countries where they encounter language barriers. Granted, it is a niche feature, but it is one that some Galaxy phone users find extremely useful. If you're unfamiliar with this tool, Interpreter leverages AI to allow Galaxy device owners […]

I hope Samsung will do more with Generative Wallpapers soon

It seems like everyone's mileage might vary when it comes to Galaxy AI features and tools. Generative Wallpaper has been one of my favorite components since it shipped with Galaxy AI and my Galaxy S24+ earlier this year. However, I am a little disappointed that I haven't seen improvements to this tool so far. One […]
